Black Lives Matter

Black Lives Matter

To our membership,

In recent weeks the Black Lives Matter movement has been sweeping the Globe. While this has been triggered more recently by the death of George Floyd, the fight against racism has become a prominent issue in the sporting world for a number of years.

As board members of Kincardine Adult Soccer Association (KASA), we wanted to use this downtime from running our leagues to take a moment to address this movement, be introspective about how we can help and advocate ourselves as allies.

Inclusivity has always been an implied, integral theme of our leagues over the years. We are proud of the diversity of our membership and will continue to work hard to provide a discrimination free environment for people to socialize and share their love for the game of soccer regardless of race, religion, gender identification or sexual orientation.

With that said however, we realize there is always room for improvement and feel it is important for it to be more formally reflected in our organization’s Mission, Vision and Disciplinary Procedures.

We want our members to know that we will never stand for any form of discrimination or harassment in our leagues. Period. We also strongly believe that our organization is only as strong as our community of members and we would like everyone to be part of this very important conversation.

If you have any comments or ideas as to how we can raise the bar as an organization to further promote the values of diversity and inclusivity, please let us know. We will then take the time to digest the feedback and ensure that it is formally embedded in our organization’s actions and values both now and for years to come. As such, we will be amending our Constitution and Strategic Plan to emphasize this inclusion.

Soccer has always been a common language, a means to break down barriers and a way to bring people together. Let’s keep it that way.

All Soccer Cancelled Indefinitely Due to Coronavirus COVID-19

It’s with deep regret that KASA has decided to cancel all soccer indefinitely. This announcement follows the recommendation from the Ontario Soccer Association, as well as many other sports organizations throughout Canada.

We have been monitoring the progress of coronavirus COVID-19 and cannot in good conscience put our members at risk unnecessarily.

For reputable updates on the outbreak, check out the Government of Canada website here.

All leagues – Monday Men’s, Wednesday No Goalies, Friday With Goalies, and our Indoor Co-Ed Tournament – will all be suspended indefinitely. Outdoor summer registration will also be postponed until we have more information on how COVID-19 will affect our community.

We will not be offering refunds for the remaining few games of this Indoor season. We will, however, be making a donation to a community project with the small surplus realized from this cancellation. We will share these details once they have been finalized.

Note — those who have paid for the Indoor tournament will be refunded in full and registration will be closed until further notice.

Please know that it is, and will always be, our intention to be fully transparent with how we manage the funds received through your registration fees. As we are a not-for-profit, we do our best to reinvest money back into the league and community as often as possible.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to reach out by hitting reply to this email. Be sure to follow us on Facebook, as we will be posting regular updates there as well.

Thank you for your understanding, and stay healthy.
